The above Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) values came into force on 3rd December 2014 and apply on all sales for main homes for 2017. If you're buying a second home or a buy-to-let investment, then there's a 3% SDLT surcharge on acqusitions over £40,000.

To determine your liability in these circumstances, use the buy to let calculator.

Rates are different in Scotland with a new Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) that also attracts a 3% surcharge. See the Scottish Stamp Duty Calculator for further information.
